Social media that fills HVAC slow seasons

TikTok ads for HVAC companies

TikTok can reach homeowners and future technicians cheaply, but the path from a view to a booked HVAC job is longer than on Meta, so we run it as a measured test with stop rules.

TikTok is the platform HVAC owners ask about most and understand least. It can put your company in front of large local audiences at a low cost per view, but views are not jobs, and the path from a TikTok clip to a booked service call is longer and harder to trace than on Facebook or Instagram. We run TikTok as a test with a fixed budget, clear measures and an honest verdict.

What TikTok ads can do for an HVAC company

TikTok works best for HVAC when the goal is education or hiring, not emergency repairs. It earns attention through useful, quick, real footage.

The uses we have the most confidence in:

  • Heat pump education. Short explainers on defrost cycles, cold-climate performance and what a home assessment involves, aimed at homeowners in your service area who are starting to think about switching.
  • Maintenance plans. "Here's what we check in a tune-up" clips, which make a recurring plan feel worth paying for.
  • Recruiting. Day-in-the-life and apprentice-story clips reach people deciding on a trade.
  • Brand familiarity in growing suburbs, where new homeowners have no existing HVAC company.

The weaker uses: urgent no-heat repairs, commercial HVAC sold to facility managers, and very small rural markets where the local audience is too thin to test.

Who this is for

It suits HVAC companies that already have Meta ads running and measured, a steady flow of short video, and either a heat pump push or a hiring need.

We usually advise against TikTok as a first paid channel. Without the basics in place, there is no clean way to tell whether it is working, and the money is better spent elsewhere.

What's included

  1. A written test plan. Objective, budget, audience, length and the numbers that decide whether to continue.
  2. A TikTok Business account and ads manager set up in your name, with the TikTok pixel on your website where relevant.
  3. Platform-specific edits. Faster cuts, native-style captions and openings built for TikTok viewing habits.
  4. Spark-style ads where it fits, which run your organic posts as ads so the comments and likes stay attached.
  5. Tracking. A tracked number and, where possible, a dedicated landing page so a TikTok call can be counted separately.
  6. Comment moderation. TikTok comment sections move fast. We reply, hide spam, and hand real enquiries to your office.

Timeline

A TikTok test runs about eight weeks from start to verdict.

  • Weeks 1 to 2. Account set-up, tracking, and the first batch of edits from existing footage.
  • Weeks 3 to 8. Live test with weekly creative changes.
  • Week 8. A short written verdict: what it cost, what it produced, and whether to keep going.

If the test is clearly failing earlier, we stop it earlier. There is no point spending the rest of a budget to prove a point.

How results are measured

For heat pump and maintenance campaigns, the measures are tracked calls, messages, landing page visits and booked assessments or plan sign-ups, set against spend. For recruiting, they are applications and interviews.

Because many TikTok viewers call days later, after searching your name, we also track branded search volume and direct calls during the test period. That signal is softer than a tracked call, and we label it that way in reports.

A worked example for recruiting: if a six-week campaign spends $1,800 and produces 24 applications, 6 interviews and 1 hired apprentice, the cost per hire is $1,800. Compare that with what a recruiting agency or months of an empty truck seat would cost you.

Mistakes to avoid

TikTok punishes some habits that work fine elsewhere:

  • Polished corporate video. Glossy ads look like ads and get skipped. Real job footage tends to hold attention longer.
  • Reusing Facebook edits as they are. The pacing is wrong for TikTok.
  • Ignoring comments. A question left unanswered under a popular clip is a lost lead seen by everyone else reading.
  • Chasing trends that do not fit. A dance trend rarely helps sell maintenance plans.
  • Measuring with views. A million views and no calls is a failed campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Are homeowners really on TikTok?

Many are, particularly first-time buyers and younger families. The audience is not only teenagers. That said, the share of people who sign off on a $15,000 heat pump project varies by market, so we test before committing a larger budget.

Is TikTok good for recruiting HVAC technicians?

Often, yes. Day-in-the-life clips from real techs reach people choosing a trade, and recruiting campaigns are one of the more reliable uses of TikTok for an HVAC company. Results still depend on your pay, schedule and reputation.

How long is a TikTok test?

Six to eight weeks with a fixed budget agreed in writing. At the end you get a plain answer: keep it, change it, or stop.

Do we need separate videos for TikTok?

Usually not separate shoots, but separate edits. TikTok rewards a rawer, faster style than Facebook. We cut the same job footage differently for each platform.
