Social media that fills HVAC slow seasons

Where we work

HVAC social media in Alberta

Alberta is a gas-furnace province with long winters and sudden chinook thaws, so HVAC feeds there centre on furnace reliability and fast response, with heat pump content aimed at a narrower audience.

Alberta HVAC social media starts from one fact: most homes in the province heat with natural gas, through long, cold winters. A feed that speaks clearly to furnace and boiler owners, shows fast response when the temperature drops, and fills the shoulder months with tune-up and maintenance offers will outperform a feed chasing national trends.

Who buys HVAC in Alberta

Most demand sits in and around Calgary and Edmonton, with Red Deer, Lethbridge and Fort McMurray as the main regional centres and fast-growing commuter communities around both big cities.

Statistics Canada puts natural gas behind the primary heating system in 76% of Alberta households in 2023, with electricity at 14%. In practice:

  • Furnace owners are the core audience: replacements, repairs, tune-ups and humidifiers for dry winter air.
  • New-build suburbs around Calgary, Airdrie, Edmonton and St. Albert bring first-time homeowners who have never hired an HVAC company and respond well to explainer video.
  • Air conditioning has grown into a real summer category, so cooling content earns a proper season.
  • Heat pumps appeal to a smaller, curious audience, often as a pairing with an existing furnace.

Winter, chinooks and the calendar

Alberta winters are cold and continental, and southern Alberta's chinook winds can turn a frozen week mild almost overnight. Social media timing has to follow the thermometer, not just the month.

What that means for the calendar:

  • Late August to September. The tune-up push. This is where Meta ads earn most of their keep, filling the weeks before the first cold snap.
  • The first hard freeze. Swap planned offers for readiness content: what to check before calling, how to change a filter, and your real response times.
  • Deep winter. Fewer promotions, more reassurance. Short clips of techs on no-heat calls show you are working when it matters.
  • Chinook thaws. Freeze-and-thaw swings can create sudden bursts of venting, condensate and humidifier questions. A ready-made bank of posts lets you respond the same day.
  • Spring and summer. Replacement planning and AC content, timed to the first warm weeks.

Alberta's framework is worth showing in your bio and About content, linked to the official source.

  • Gas, plumbing, electrical and building work all fall under Alberta's safety codes system; permits come from accredited municipalities or, where none applies, the Alberta Safety Codes Authority.
  • Apprenticeship and Industry Training oversees trades certification, including compulsory-certification trades.
  • WCB-Alberta handles workers' compensation.
  • If any of your marketing drives sales away from your usual place of business with money taken before the job is done, read the province's prepaid contracting publication first.

Energy programs, as of October 2026

No province-wide Alberta home heating rebate was found on official sources, and Alberta had no Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program agreement as of October 22, 2026. For Alberta homeowners, the federal oil-to-heat-pump grant's application window shut on July 31, 2026.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program offers property-tax-based financing for efficiency and renewable upgrades, but only in participating municipalities. For social media, that means a CEIP post should name the municipality it applies to and link the official list. A province-wide "get financing through CEIP" ad would mislead homeowners in towns that do not take part.

How we approach Alberta HVAC social media

  1. Lead with furnace reliability. It is what most homeowners care about, most of the year.
  2. Split by city. Calgary and Edmonton get separate audiences, calendars where needed, and separate weather triggers.
  3. Use the shoulder months hard. Tune-up and maintenance-plan campaigns from late summer carry the most weight.
  4. Aim heat pump content precisely. Retarget people who watched explainer clips rather than pushing heat pumps to everyone.
  5. Show the cold-weather work. Real clips of winter calls build trust faster than any offer.

Frequently asked questions

Are heat pumps worth posting about in Alberta?

Yes, but for a narrower audience than on the coast. Cold-climate heat pump content works best aimed at homeowners already curious about switching or adding one alongside a furnace, rather than as the main message of the feed.

Do Calgary and Edmonton need separate campaigns?

Usually, yes. They are separate markets with their own suburbs, competitors and weather on any given day. Splitting ad audiences also stops a chinook-warm Calgary from seeing cold-snap ads meant for Edmonton.

Can we promote home shows and in-home sales on social media?

You can, but if your sales happen away from your usual premises and you take payment before the work is finished, Alberta's prepaid contracting rules may apply. Check with the province before running that kind of campaign.
